Notices- 10/23/17

Tomorrow is library. Please make sure that you check at home for any library books- we have been missing quite a few. Students are welcome to bring their books into the classroom and leave them in a basket when they are done with them,

Friday morning will be the last Halloween Parade at FW. Parents are welcome to come watch the students in the gym. The parade will start at 9. Please let me know if your child will not be participating this year.

Students are welcome to wear their costumes Friday. I ask that you please send another change of clothes or they wear their costume over their clothes so they do not have to spend the day in their costumes. Please LABEL EVERYTHING! We do not want to lose anything for Halloween night.

Homework folders went home today. Please make sure reading logs are filled out.

Don't forget to check blue folders daily- some folders are already getting quite full.

I cannot believe we are halfway through October! Where has the time gone?

We have had a great time exploring plants and trees this week. On Tuesday Ms. P from the Burlington Science Center came to visit and she took us on a tree walk in our playground. We saw different types of trees and their parts. Students created a book on their iPads taking different pictures.

Today we explored our plants in our classroom- focusing our conversation on the roots of plants. We talked about why the roots are important, what they do for a plant, and guessed how big roots would be of different plants.

We finished topic 1 in math. We did an assessment today on the iPads. We will begin topic 2 on Monday. Topic 2 will have us work on math fluency to 10. You can practice at home by making flash cards with your child.
Students have been enjoying ST Math at school. They are also able to do it at home on an iPad. They know their logins and should be able to login at home. Please let students try and do this program by themselves at home. I have talked to them about it is an “all by yourself job” and parents and older siblings should not be doing it for them. I want to see what they know!

Homework folders have been going home on Mondays and should be returning on Fridays. In order for students to get credit for their homework they need to have completed the 2 required tasks (1 math paper and reading log) as well as 4 other squares. Although there are only 4 days on the reading log I encourage you to read every night with your student.

Please check back often to check on updates! You can sign up to receive emails when my blog has been updated!

The school will be having a parade on Friday October 27th to celebrate Halloween. Please let me know if your child will not be participating. More information regarding the parade will be sent home next week.

Have a great weekend!

We have been busy in Room 113! We are continuing our science curriculum on plants. This week we put a white carnation in water that was dyed with blue food coloring and saw the changes in the carnation. That was fun to see. We have been investigating the different parts of a plant and learning about why the different parts are important to the plant.

We visited the library this week on Tuesday. We will go every other week. If students have finished reading their books at home, there is a basket in the classroom they can put their book in until we go to the library again. Students who have not returned a book will not be able to bring another book home.

We have  been working on addition and subtraction in math this week. Students have been doing a nice job with figuring out which way to solve the problems. Keep up the good work at home with their math homework!

Please make sure students are completing all the required tasks for homework. They should be writing their own sentences and completing the math papers. Reading logs should be completed as well as the math pages. When students return 5 fully completed homework packets they will receive a prize.

I have been posting the majority of photos to Instagram. Keep checking it out for snapshots into the classroom.

I shared some exciting news with the class on Friday. My husband and I are happy to announce we are expecting a baby in December! It was fun to tell the students- they were so excited for us!

October 6, 2017

We had a fabulous day at Drumlin Farm today! The weather was beautiful and we got to see a lot of different animals and even pet quite a few! A big thank you to Ms. Sorenson, Ms. Blake, Mr. LaCroix, and Mrs. Pandolfo for coming with us today and helping us with our groups!
Be sure to check back later for pictures or head over to Instagram!

We have been learning a lot about plants and the different parts and the way the parts help the plant. I hope your students told you about our celery experiment! That was really neat to see. We also planted seeded in plastic cups to discover the roots and see how they grow. Hopefully we will see them growing next week.

We started topic 1 in math as I am sure you have seen the papers coming home. We are in full swing with addition and subtraction. We have also been doing ST Math on our iPads every day. I hope the students are enjoying it. They can try logging in at home and doing some lessons. There is also a fluency portion they can do.

Our next round of Scholastic Book orders will be due October 13th. Happy Reading!

As a reminder Monday there will be no school due to Columbus day. Enjoy the long weekend!
